What an expert witness report looks like
An expert witness report on a flooring failure is not a longer version of an installer's snag list. Its job is to set out the inspector's qualifications and duty to the court, the facts established on site, the technical reasoning that leads from those facts to a conclusion, and the remedy proportionate to the fault.
We reference the relevant British Standards (BS 8203 for sheet and tile flexible floor coverings, BS 8201 for timber, BS 5325 for textile floor coverings, BS 8204 for screeds, and others as applicable), the manufacturer's written installation instructions and the contemporaneous site evidence. That is what makes the report usable.
Frequently asked questions
- Are your reports CPR Part 35 compliant?
- Yes. Our Diamond-tier reports are written to comply with CPR Part 35 and the accompanying Practice Direction, including the statement of truth and expert's declaration. They are intended to be served as evidence in court.
- Can you act as a single joint expert?
- Yes. We are routinely instructed as a single joint expert by both parties to a flooring dispute, which is usually faster and cheaper than each side instructing their own.
- Do you attend court?
- Yes. Court attendance is included in the Diamond package. We give evidence in plain English so the judge and both parties understand what failed and why.
- What about the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman?
- Many of our reports are used in ombudsman cases. The same standard of evidence applies — the ombudsman expects independent technical reasoning, not opinion.
