What an independent inspector actually does on site
A proper flooring inspection is not just a look-and-photograph job. We assess the subfloor condition, moisture levels, levelness, adhesive bond, installation tolerances against the manufacturer's specification and the British Standard that applies to the floor covering in question (BS 8203, BS 8201, BS 5325 and so on).
The result is a written report that explains the findings in plain English, identifies the most likely cause, apportions responsibility fairly between subfloor, product and installation, and recommends a proportionate remedy. That is what makes a report usable as evidence — not the length of it, but the reasoning behind it.
We work for whoever instructs us. The conclusion is the conclusion, regardless of who is paying.
Frequently asked questions
- How quickly can a flooring inspector attend my site?
- Most UK site visits are booked within 5–10 working days. Urgent cases (court deadlines, ombudsman timeframes) can usually be expedited — let us know the deadline when you enquire.
- Are you affiliated with any flooring brands?
- No. We are completely independent of manufacturers, retailers and installers. That is the whole point of an independent flooring inspector — the report has to stand up under scrutiny from both sides.
- Will the report hold up in court or with the ombudsman?
- Yes. Our Gold and Diamond reports are written to be used as evidence with the Furniture & Home Improvement Ombudsman, trading standards and the small claims / county court. Diamond includes court accompaniment.
- Do you cover Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?
- Yes. We attend sites across the whole of the UK including the Highlands, Wales and Northern Ireland. Travel is itemised transparently in the quote.
