Wood floor cupping, crowning and gapping

Wood moves with moisture. When it moves too much, the cause is usually in the subfloor, the room conditions or the installation. We measure and explain.
  • Moisture from the subfloor
  • High or low room humidity
  • Underfloor heating run too hot
  • Boards not acclimatised
  • No expansion gaps

What we do

We take wood moisture content, subfloor and ambient humidity readings, check expansion gaps and heating, and compare them with the manufacturer's requirements.

We cover the whole UK: London, South East, Midlands, North West, Yorkshire, North East, South West, East of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland.

Frequently asked questions

Will cupped boards flatten again?
Sometimes, once the moisture source is fixed. The report advises whether to wait, repair or replace.
Is engineered wood different?
It is more stable, but it still fails if conditions are outside the manufacturer's limits.
